Fall Sports

  • The Simsbury High School cheerleading team may consist of both male and female athletes. The team supports SHS fall/winter athletic programs and competes during the winter season.

    • If a team member must miss a practice, that team member must contact Coach Petersen BEFORE the missed practice to inform him of the absence, unless we discuss a part-time school schedule in advance.

  • The Simsbury High School unified sports program is a co-ed team that participates in three sports during the course of the year... soccer and flag football in the fall, basketball in the winter, and volleyball and track in the spring.

    Unified Sports® is a registered program of Special Olympics that combines approximately equal numbers of athletes with and without intellectual disability on sports teams for training and competition. All Unified Sports® players, both athletes and special partners, are of similar age and matched sport skill ability. Unified Sports® teams are placed in competitive divisions based on their skill abilities, and range from training divisions (with a skill-learning focus) to high level competition.

    The team practices one day per week and competes at various tournaments throughout the school year.

    Teams practice once a week after school from 2:15-3:30 PM

    • All players will speak with all coaches at the end of their tryout process.  There will be a conversation if a player is not placed on a team as well as to discuss team placement and role within the program.
    • Coaches will communicate their practice time and location to their players.
    • Factors to keep in mind:
      • It gets harder to make a team as players get older.
      • Placement factors include but are not limited to:

        • Safety
    • Players are evaluated by six coaches daily.

    Members of the team can take first-run bus #90 for their practices at Simsbury Farms. When school ends at 2:10 PM, players can get on bus #90, they won’t need a note. The bus drivers are also aware that they may have their bags with them.
