About Simsbury

Simsbury Public Schools is located 12 miles northwest of Hartford and is one of the Capitol Region's most desirable residential towns. Situated in the historic Farmington Valley, fine homes and abundant cultural, educational and shopping facilities have attracted citizens from a variety of professional and vocational backgrounds.

Simsbury residents enjoy a wide variety of cultural, historical, and recreational facilities. Outdoor recreation areas include the Massaco and Stratton Brook State Forests, the McLean Game Refuge, and the Talcott Mountain State Park. In addition, a modern recreation complex, Simsbury Farms, provides swimming pools, tennis courts, an 18-hole golf course, and a fitness trail. The University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music has selected Simsbury as the site of its first satellite school, where both a traditional program and a Suzuki program of music instruction are offered. The International Skating Center of Connecticut is also located in Simsbury and is home to renowned U.S. and international skaters who live and train in Simsbury as do many student skaters. Finally, groups such as Theater Guild and Simsbury Light Opera present Simsbury with cultural experiences.

Our district is made up of five K-6 elementary schools, one 7-8 middle school, and one comprehensive high school. Simsbury employs approximately 900 people comprised of certified and non-certified support staff. For information on enrollment, please visit our Student Registration page.

    Personal Day Guidelines

    The perfect attendance program as established July 1, 1986 provides for earning one-half day off with pay for pre-determined three-month periods of perfect attendance for eligible employees covered by the SFEP, NAME or unaffiliated agreements. Absences for personal leave or vacation leave will not mar perfect attendance; absences for sick leave, suspension or tardiness will mar perfect attendance. If you have had perfect attendance for the recorded period(s), please complete the form below and return it with the appropriate signatures to the Human Resources office.

    All absences should be entered through the use of the Frontline Absence Management program.  No paper forms are being utilized.  Refer to your school secretary or Cindi Freilinger, Human Resources Coordinator, with questions.

    If you have questions regarding attendance records or would like to request an attendance report, e-mail your questions / requests to Cindi Freilinger, Human Resources Coordinator for Simsbury Public Schools.

The safety of the students while in school and on field trips it of the utmost importance, and with that in mind, the Simsbury Board of Education has adopted a new Volunteer Policy effective August 28, 2013.

    Effective August 28, 2013 volunteers/chaperones serving in the capacity to provide services to students when not in the direct presence of a Simsbury Public Schools Employee (Group II Volunteers/Chaperones) will be required to complete consent forms regarding the release of information for background check.

    Group II Volunteers/Chaperones are defined as follows:

    • Accompanying a class on a field trip in which the plans include that students be divided into small groups supervised solely by the volunteer chaperone for any length of time;
    • Chaperoning an overnight trip;

    • Coaching

    If you plan to serve as a volunteer/chaperone and are not on the district's approved list you will be asked to fill out two forms: “Chaperone Background Review” and “Authorization for Release of Information” forms. These must be completed and returned to Cindi Freilinger, Human Resources Coordinator, Board of Education, 933 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070. Please plan for 3-4 weeks for the background check to be performed. Upon a successful background check, you will be added to the approved list and will remain on it for a period of 5 years at which time we will request authorization for an updated background check.
