Latimer Lane School Building Project
Dear Simsbury Neighbors,
Welcome to this website dedicated to news and updates about the Latimer Lane School addition and renovation project! As a result of a referendum vote in May of 2021, the Latimer Lane project was approved for $36.7 million in order to add nearly 22,000 square feet of space to the building and bring the rest of the current structure to a “renovate as new” status. As of the fall of 2022, all state approvals have now been granted, and the project is out to bid. Construction activity is scheduled to begin around Thanksgiving and will last for the next two years.
We plan to use this website as “one-stop shopping” for those residents who are interested in learning the details about this important community investment – including timelines, progress with construction, Frequently Asked Questions, and real-time updates through links to social media. Our hope is to be as transparent as possible about both the successes achieved and the challenges encountered given a project of this scope.
The Latimer Lane School, first built in 1962, was identified in a long-term facilities study conducted by the Board of Education as the building most in need of a significant capital investment. Over the next two years, the school will be transformed and modernized. We are excited that you have decided to follow that progress, and we thank you for your support.
Susan Salina Matt Curtis
Chair, Board of Education Superintendent of Schools
