Welcome to Central School!
The Central School community has a long-standing history of educational excellence dating back to its inception as Central Grammar School in 1913. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Central School is the oldest school in Simsbury.
Central School’s theme—“Learning the Ropes for the Voyage of Life”—reflects our belief in meeting the needs of the whole child: the mind, body, character, and creativity of each student. The six Pillars of Character—trustworthiness, citizenship, caring, respect, fairness, and responsibility—are reinforced and celebrated throughout the year by our All Hands on Deck character education program. Students are encouraged to set high goals and give their best effort every day.
Our faculty is committed to rigorous instructional programs that foster and develop a community of learners while promoting a love of learning. Our talented and dedicated teachers work in professional learning communities weekly to support all students and to refine instructional practices. In addition, teachers work collaboratively with colleagues in the town’s other elementary schools. Our strong home/school partnership has always been a cornerstone for the success of our learners. Our school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and our many community volunteers exemplify this core belief and are invaluable to our school’s strong culture and ongoing student achievement.
