You can help your child get a head start on all the laughter and wonder of the summer reading experience by encouraging him or her to participate in the Simsbury Summer Reading Program in conjunction with the Governor's Summer Reading Challenge. The goal of the Simsbury Summer Reading Program is to provide students with a wide variety of books to enjoy during the summer months. Working together with the Simsbury Public Library, the schools’ Language Arts Consultants and Library Media Specialists have developed an expansive summer reading list. The books on the list were read, discussed and selected by the committee to include titles from a wide range of genre and interests. These books will encourage children to laugh, think and wonder as they read.

The lists are organized by grade level clusters: K-2, 3-4, and 5-6. For those titles that may not be at an appropriate level for your child, reading aloud is a valuable way for your child to experience these books. The lists are not intended to be exclusive to specific grade levels; therefore your child may select books from any list with your guidance. If these books are not available at the library or in the bookstore, try other books by the same author in the same series.

The committee hopes you and your child enjoy these recommended books and also find other great books at the library during the summer. We also hope that your child will participate in the Governor's Summer Reading Challenge.
