Student Registration 2019-2020

Welcome to Simsbury Public Schools!

Please contact  Laura Shellman, Enrollment Coordinator, at 860-323-8140, or by email at to begin the registration process for the 2019-20 school year. We will ask for a small amount of preliminary information so we can plan on your child(ren) while you are completing the registration process. If you received a kindergarten packet at your school's orientation or by mail, you do not need to contact the Enrollment Office, as we already have your child on our eligible list.

Your child is not considered registered until all documentation has been completed and submitted to the Enrollment Office. Please do not submit the Release of Records form (not used with first time incoming kindergartners) to your child's current school; we will take care of sending for records and we want a copy of the release in our files. Documents should be returned to the Enrollment Office in any of the following manners:

  • Uploaded here using links found in any of the first three blue banners below. Documents must be scanned and saved as PDF files; photographs of documents will not be accepted. Size of documents uploaded on this site cannot exceed 10MB per file.
  • Attached documents by email. Documents must be scanned and saved as PDF files; photographs of documents will not be accepted. Total size of all emailed files combined cannot exceed 10MB.
  • Fax
  • Postal mail
  • In person at the BOE offices

We look forward to your family joining us!

Please see the first three buttons below for documentation/forms you will need to supply for registration.

Proof of Residence (select one of the following three options). Proof of residence can be submitted once per family, not per student.

  • Copy of a recent Purchase Contract, dated within 90 days of your child's start in Simsbury Schools, for the purchase of your home in Simsbury.
  • Copy of a current lease agreement for your rental home/apartment in Simsbury.
  • One copy each of a current utility bill (dated within 60 days) from two different utilities in your name and showing services provided at your Simsbury house/apartment address. Accepted utilities include electric, water, oil, natural gas, cable, or land-line phone (a cell phone bill will not be accepted).

Birth Certificate copy for each student you are registering. We will need the full certificate, not the wallet-size card. If you are missing yours, certificates can be obtained in either the town where your child was born, or in the town where the mother was residing at the time of the child's birth.

Special Services. If your student receives Special Services at his/her current school, please provide a copy of their latest IEP or 504 Plan.

Registration, Release of Records, and Emergency Forms

Please complete one Emergency Information Form per student.

These forms can be filled out online if your browser is Internet Explorer or Chrome. Firefox does not support online forms. After you fill it out, you will need to print them and sign them. Electronic signatures will not be accepted.

Medical Requirements and Forms

Proof of Physical and Immunizations per the 2019-20 State of Connecticut Requirements, and Simsbury Public Schools Requirements. Parents/guardians need to fill out page 1 of the State of CT Health Assessment Record; your physician will fill out page 2-3. Physicals must be dated within 12 months prior to the start of school in Simsbury. If their last physical is older than 12 months, a new one will be required before your student can start. All items on the form with an asterisk are required by the State of CT for entry into school.

Students entering from another Connecticut school can obtain their proof of physical/immunizations from the student's previous school or from your physician.

Students entering from out of state do not need the physical completed by a CT physician, but the CT State Health form needs to be filled out by your physician based on an up-to-date physical. Immunizations must be current as required by the State of CT for school entry.

Students entering from outside of the U.S. must have a physical done by a U.S. physician prior to entry into school, and the CT Health form must be filled out with the results of that physical. Immunizations must be current as required by the State of CT for school entry.

For students participating in interscholastic sports at Simsbury High School, please contact the High School Athletic Office at 860-658-0451, option 3, for additional physical requirements.

Kindergarten Timeline for 2019-20

Children who will turn five on or before January 1, 2020 are eligible to start Kindergarten in the Fall of 2019.

If you have a preschool age child, please enter your information into the Preschool Census and your child will be added to our list for the year he/she is eligible for kindergarten. You may enter your data any time during the year, but no later than January 7, 2019 for children who are eligible for kindergarten in the Fall of 2019. After January 7, please call the Enrollment Office at 860-323-8140 to add your child's name to the list for the Fall of 2019 and ensure getting registration materials.

January, 2019 - Toward the end of the month, letters are sent to families with age-eligible children with information about the Kindergarten 2019-20 registration process and an invitation to attend the Parent Orientation meetings.

February, 2019 - Parent Orientation meetings (dates to be determined) will be held at each school and registration packets in your child's name will be available for pickup at that meeting.

April 1, 2019 - deadline date for kindergarten registration for the 2019-20 school year. This deadline will not apply to new families moving into town from April through the start of the school year.

May, 2019 - There may be a Visit Day for incoming kindergarten students.  Your school will notify you with a date and time if they are having such a day.

Summer, 2019 - Schools will notify registered families of their child's teacher assignment, and send information about any upcoming events.

July/August, 2019 - Schools have an Ice Cream Social or a Popsicles With the Principal Day planned.  Your school will notify you when they have chosen a date and time for their event.

August, 2019 - A Meet and Greet will be held at each school a few days before the start of school for the children to see their classroom, meet their teacher, and take a short ride on the school bus. Bus route information will be posted online approximately two weeks before the first day of school, and bus information will also be handed out for each child at the Meet and Greet. Parents will be notified by their school during the summer with the date and time for their child's Meet and Greet.

August 28, 2019 - First day of school!

Your will need to repeat this to subscribe at each school you have a child entering. When you no longer have a child at that school, you can unsubscribe in the same place.
