Dear Central School Families,
Today, classes recognized Veterans Day by watching a slide presentation that included a lesson on Veterans Day, patriotic songs, and the official songs from the 5 branches of the military. Thank you for sending in special veterans' names that were shared in classrooms. This is an important day for our students to be in school as they learn about all veterans, in our Central School community and worldwide, that served and protected our nation.
We are still collecting donations for the annual Jack Bannon Turkey Trot. Many thanks to those who have already made a donation. Our collection boxes are overflowing with food donations and there is a lot of excitement every morning as students add their donation to their grade level box. Monetary donations are accepted through Friday and food donations by Monday, November 15th.
We look forward to seeing you next week for virtual or in-person parent conferences. If you chose a virtual meeting, be on the lookout for a Google Meet invitation on Monday from your child's classroom teacher. And on Tuesday, watch for two emails per child, one for an academic report card and another for art/music/physical education. The emails will come from Notification@target101#.brightarrow.com and the subject line will read, This is a Notification from Simsbury Public Schools. If you do not receive these emails please check your spam folder. If they are not in your spam folder, contact Jo-Anne Chase at jchase@simsburyschools.net.
November is Native American Heritage Month. This month is a chance to share the ancestry, traditions, and contributions of indigenous communities. During the month, we celebrate the contributions of Native peoples past and present. We will provide morning announcements and select grade-level "read aloud" books. We will continue to provide you with information about these celebrations, so you can ask your child about new learning they experience through these fun activities!
Today, the school nurse was notified of a member of the Central School community who tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was last in school on November 5, 2021. In following our protocol, we immediately contacted the Farmington Valley Health District to collaboratively assess the case. Based on specific information about the case, the FVHD has advised us that there is no need to implement our school-based contact tracing protocols, nor to further quarantine anyone at school.
As a reminder, it is imperative that parents, guardians, and staff complete daily health assessments before coming to school. Should anyone feel ill, please stay home. Further, should anyone in our school community test positive for COVID-19 or come in close contact with someone who has, it is critical for everyone's health and safety to inform the school nurse immediately.
If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to reach out to me or our school nurse, Lora Rancourt.
