Welcome to the Simsbury Public Schools' district website. The award-winning Simsbury Public Schools have a long history of success resulting from the collective commitment of our community, staff members, and students. Our district is composed of seven schools (Simsbury High School, Henry James Memorial School, Central School, Latimer Lane School, Tariffville School, Tootin’ Hills School, and Squadron Line School) with an enrollment of 4,134 students in grades kindergarten through twelve, as well as a well-attended pre-kindergarten program.

I encourage you to explore the available information on our website; you will find a system deeply devoted to continuous improvement in all aspects of our organization. Over the course of 2013-14 the district engaged in a process to refine and define our District Vision and Core Beliefs and create the next generation of our five year Board of Education Goals. The administration has developed clear and coherent structures through a strategic plan to support the identified goals. Our goals relate to the following five key areas:

  1. Student achievement
  2. Professionalism - effective teachers and leaders
  3. School Culture
  4. Communication
  5. Resource

Our commitment to excellence continues to be driven by our District Vision, which states: “The Simsbury Public Schools cultivate the mind, body, and character of each student. We engage students with a meaningful and rigorous academic foundation so that they can contribute to a global society with integrity, compassion, and resilience.”

Our strategic plan is indicative of our focus on improvement, goal setting, and accountability. It clearly outlines our district wide goals, priorities, and indicators of success. The strategic plan also serves as the foundation for our budgeting process. Our budgets are strategic and efficient, supporting our district-wide goals and initiatives.

Simsbury’s public schools provide the rich and rigorous academic foundation required of students in an ever-evolving society. We have a proven track record of outstanding academic achievement across the disciplines. Our curriculum focuses on 21st century college and career readiness by emphasizing problem solving, critical and creative thinking, artistic expression, physical/emotional wellness, and an appreciation of diversity. Last year was an incredible year of student and staff achievement, and every year in late fall, we publish a synopsis of accomplishments in our Annual Report that includes measures of academic performance at Simsbury High School.

Simsbury High School, which is the culminating experience for our students, offers a wide range of elective offerings that enhance the overall student experience beyond most comprehensive high schools. I encourage you to explore our Student Learning Clusters, elective course offerings in the areas of biomedical sciences, business and finance, communications, culinary arts, engineering, humanities, music and performing arts, and the visual arts. We celebrate the many achievements of our students in academics, the arts, and athletics while cultivating personal relationships through the development of positive school climate programs. Our schools foster an environment focused on respect, responsibility, and compassion for others. In addition, students are encouraged to discover their individual talents and interests through participation in our substantial extracurricular offerings.

Our esteemed faculty represents the best in current practices and pride themselves on a collaborative approach and dedication to job-embedded professional development. It is through our highly committed teacher teams that instructional practices are refined and implemented with the aim to meet the needs of all our students.

I am privileged to lead this high-achieving district that is representative of the collective efforts of an entire community and its stakeholders. We take tremendous pride in the vast accomplishments of our students, faculty, and our quality programs. As we head into a new school year we will continue to evolve our curriculum and instructional assessment practices to align with the mission and vision of the Simsbury Public Schools and build upon the inherent strengths and achievements of our community, students, and schools.
