Student Registration 2017-2018

Welcome to Simsbury Public Schools!

Please contact Susan Caccamo, Enrollment Coordinator, at 860-323-8140, or by email at to begin the registration process for the 2017-18 school year. We will ask for a small amount of preliminary information so we can plan on your child(ren) while you are completing the registration process. If you received a kindergarten packet at your school's orientation or by mail, you do not need to contact the Enrollment Office, as we already have your child on our eligible list.

Your child is not considered registered until all documentation has been completed and submitted to the Enrollment Office. Please do not submit the Release of Records form (not used with incoming kindergartners) to your child's current school; we will take care of sending for records and we want a copy of the release in our files. Documents should be returned to the Enrollment Office in person, via postal mail, fax, or email attachments. Documents attached in emails must be scanned and saved as PDF files; photographs of documents will not be accepted.

Proof of Residence (select one of the following three options)

  • Copy of a recent Purchase Contract, dated within 90 days, for the purchase of your home in Simsbury.
  • Copy of a current lease agreement for your rental home/apartment in Simsbury.
  • One copy each of a current utility bill (dated within 60 days) from two different utilities in your name and showing services provided at your Simsbury house/apartment address. Accepted utilities include electric, water, oil, natural gas, cable, or land-line phone (a cell phone bill will not be accepted).

Birth Certificate copy for each student you are registering. We will need the full certificate, not the wallet-size card. If you are missing yours, certificates can be obtained in either the town where your child was born, or in the town where the mother was residing at the time of the child's birth.

Special Services. If your student receives Special Services at his/her current school, please provide a copy of their latest IEP or 504 Plan.

Release of Records Form

These forms can be filled out online if your browser is Internet Explorer or Chrome. Firefox does not support online forms. After you fill it out, you will need to print them and sign them. Electronic signatures will not be accepted.

Medical Requirements and Forms

Proof of Physical and Immunizations per the 2017-18 State of Connecticut Requirements, and Simsbury Public Schools Requirements. Parents/guardians need to fill out page 1 of the State of CT Health Assessment Record; your physician will fill out page 2-3. Physicals must be dated within 12 months prior to the start of school in Simsbury. If their last physical is older than 12 months, a new one will be required before your student can start. All items on the form with an asterisk are required by the State of CT for entry into school.

Students entering from another Connecticut school can obtain their proof of physical/immunizations from the student's previous school or from your physician.

Students entering from out of state do not need the physical done by a CT physician, but the CT State Health form needs to be filled out by your physician based on an up-to-date physical. Immunizations must be current as required by the State of CT for school entry.

Students entering from outside of the U.S. must have a physical done by a U.S. physician prior to entry into school, and the CT Health form must be filled out with the results of that physical. Immunizations must be current as required by the State of CT for school entry.

For students participating in interscholastic sports at Simsbury High School, please contact the High School Athletic Office at 860-658-0451, option 3, for additional physical requirements.

Kindergarten Timeline

Children who will turn five on or before January 1, 2018 are eligible to start Kindergarten in the Fall of 2017.

If you have a preschool age child, please enter your information into the Preschool Census and your child will be added to our list for the year he/she is eligible for kindergarten. You may enter your data any time during the year, but no later than January 8, 2017 for children who are eligible for kindergarten in the Fall of 2017. After January 8, please call the Enrollment Office at 860-323-8140 to add your child's name to the list for the Fall of 2017.

January, 2017 - Toward the end of the month, letters are sent to families with age-eligible children with information about the Kindergarten 2017-18 registration process and an invitation to attend the Parent Orientation meetings.

February, 2017 - Parent Orientation meetings (scheduled dates) will be held at each school and registration packets in your child's name will be available for pickup at that meeting.

April 3, 2017 - deadline date for kindergarten registration for the 2017-18 school year. This deadline will not apply to new families moving into town from April through the start of school.

Summer, 2017 - Schools will notify registered families of their child's teacher assignment, and send information about any upcoming events.

August, 2017 - A Meet and Greet will be held at each school a few days before the start of school for the children to see their classroom, meet their teacher, and take a short ride on the school bus. Bus route information will be posted online approximately two weeks before the first day of school, and information will also be handed out for each child at the Meet and Greet. Parents will be notified by their school during the summer with the date and time for their child's Meet and Greet.

August 30, 2017 - First day of school!

Additional Kindergarten Information

Middle and High School Testing/Scheduling Appointment

Middle School and High School Testing: If you have a student entering either the middle school or the high school, you must set up an appointment with the School Counseling Office for placement testing and class scheduling after you complete your registration.

  • Middle School students are tested in math, reading, and writing. Plan for up to 2 hours for testing, class selection, and a tour. You can reach the Counseling Office at 860-651-3341, extension 2.
  • High School students are tested in vocabulary and comprehension. Plan for 1 1/2 to 2 hours for testing, class selection, and a tour. You can reach the Counseling Office at 860-658-0451, extension 2

The Counseling Offices will not set up an appointment until you have completed registration.

For your convenience, you may download the Middle School Program of Studies or the High School Program of Studies to review prior to your appointment.

Please take your student's latest report card/transcript with you to your appointment. It is needed to determine course selection and the level of a class your student should take.

School Year Calendar

The 2017-18 calendar is for your reference. It does not yet have early dismissal days determined for report card conferences or professional development days. A revised calendar will be posted once those days are determined.

School Email Notification

Much of the information sent from our schools is sent via email. Please take a moment to sign up for your child's school email. Go to Schools > {select your school} > Email Notification. Your will need to repeat this to subscribe at each school you have a child entering. When you no longer have a child at that school, you can unsubscribe in the same place.
